Umbrella Uprising!
Governor's Island NY
Governor’s Island has become something of a play place for the city’s design inclined. This years challenge was for designers to envision installations that provide at least 50 visitors a shaded retreat with a net-zero ecological footprint. The artists and architects must also consider the entire life cycle of the materials to be used in their proposals.

Pier Review
You would never know Norman Levy Park and Preserve once served as a landfill. In 2000 it was transformed to park space. The 52-acre facility features a 500-foot fishing pier looking out into Merrick Bay. The park is named after Norman J. Levy, who was a New York State Senator and a champion for the environment. The park is the highest point on Long Island's South Shore, and has an average altitude of around 120 feet

Bow Bridge, Central Park, NYC
The first cast-iron bridge in the Park (and the second oldest in America), the bridge was built between 1859 and 1862. Bow Bridge is named for its graceful shape, reminiscent of the bow of an archer or violinist. This handsomely designed bridge spans the Lake, linking Cherry Hill with the woodland of the Ramble. When the Park was first planned, the commissioners requested a suspension bridge. The designers compromised with this refined, low-lying bridge.

Little Red LIghthouse
The Little Red Lighthouse stopped being used as a functional lighthouse long ago, but over the years this 40-foot-high structure has become a beacon of another kind. Located underneath the George Washington Bridge along this treacherous section of the Hudson River once known as Jeffrey’s Hook, this is one of the few surviving lighthouses in New York City and serves as a quaint reminder of the area’s history.

Jeffrey's Hook Light
The Little Red Lighthouse, officially Jeffrey's Hook Light, is a small lighthouse located in Fort Washington Park on the Hudson River in New York City, under the George Washington Bridge. It was made famous by the 1942 children's book The Little Red Lighthouse and the Great Gray Bridge by Hildegarde Swift. The lighthouse stands on Jeffrey’s Hook, a small point of land that supports the base of the eastern pier of the bridge, which connects the Washington Heights neighborhood in Manhattan to Fort Lee, New Jersey.
