Back in the day before pagers, cell phones and messages. When it was time for Anthony to come home for dinner, The window was all you needed.

Gritty City

Chinatown Doyers Street, essentially an old cart path, is named for Hendrick Doyer, who owned a distillery here in the 1800’s. It’s very narrow and for a time, its sharp curve earned Doyle Street the nickname of “Bloody Angle”. It was the site of numerous gang street battles and murders. An alleged network of tunnels connecting several buildings also made for easy getaways.

Little Red LIghthouse

The Little Red Lighthouse stopped being used as a functional lighthouse long ago, but over the years this 40-foot-high structure has become a beacon of another kind. Located underneath the George Washington Bridge along this treacherous section of the Hudson River once known as Jeffrey’s Hook, this is one of the few surviving lighthouses in New York City and serves as a quaint reminder of the area’s history.

Staple Street, New York City Built in 1907 the town house was originally a stable for horse-drawn ambulances. The bridge over the alley was used to transport patients from the stable to a hospital clinic at 67 Hudson Street.
